Our Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

A good extra virgin olive oil is comparable to good wine: the terroir and the processing are decisive. With wine there is a Grand Cru or a Super Tuscany as a seal of quality.

It is exactly the same with olive oil: the Moncioni region is known as an excellent site and our careful processing guarantees the high quality of the final product. Without a doubt: the oil from Ventena Vecchia is a "Grand Cru".

In addition, we have been certified organic for over 10 years in compliance with European standards. Moreover, we are proud to continue a regional tradition, Ventena Vecchia is after all a very old olive estate with a good reputation, whose tradition we want to preserve.

2025 Harvest

We had actually planned to focus more on olives in 2025 – and we had also invested heavily in the olive grove. Nevertheless, with heavy hearts, we had to forego the harvest. The olives were not of the quality that we require for our oil.

The olives were severely affected by pests and, above all, by extreme weather conditions: heavy rainfall during flowering, followed by several hailstorms. Many fruits were knocked off the trees long before the planned harvest – a clear sign of poor quality. The Moraiolo tree in particular normally holds its olives very tightly.

We were not alone in this decision: very few olive farmers in the region harvested at all, and the oil mills closed their doors again in mid-November.

The good news:

Our last harvest in 2024/25 was excellent in terms of both quantity and quality. We can deliver this oil from our warehouse. The quality does not suffer from storage: even the strict organic guidelines stipulate a “best before” date of two years, and we know from experience that our oil keeps for much longer.

Olive oil can therefore still be ordered – while stocks last. Olive oil orders can be placed using the order button below.

2024 Harvest

There is little to complain about with the 2024 harvest. The harvest was very good, albeit not record-breaking.  The fairly good weather during flowering and fertilization led to a large crop, which even the very dry and hot midsummer could not harm. However, ripening was delayed, so that this year's harvest was significantly later than in previous years. But the most important thing is that the quality is excellent!

Our products

Gold Edition

The oil with the golden cap - the "Gold Edition" - this is the "green gold" of Ventena Vecchia. An organic olive oil of first quality.

The taste of this oil is strong, but a little milder than the No. 595. Before bottling, this oil was filtered.  It is made from practically 100% Moraiolo olives.

Normally, shipping to Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland; other countries on request.

No. 595

The Extra Vergine "No. 595" is a particular specialty: "595" is the plot number in the Leopoldine cadastre of about 1820 from the plot that designated the immediate surroundings of the owner's villa. In fact, even today there are the most magnificent olive trees. "595" today, in the best Tuscan tradition, is supposed to mean that this is the best product, which otherwise belonged only (in the sense of mezzadria) to the owner family.

This extra virgin comes from the first harvest of almost only green olives and is filtered. The olives were ground in a very special, high-quality oil mill, which was built as a prototype by the University of Florence.

The "595" tastes quite strong, green-peppery and is suitable as a condiment, for example pure on toasted ciabatta, the so-called "fettunta" - or a filo over plain spaghetti with a little parmesan, and this is already a feast!

Of course, there is also olive oil as an "industrial product" - analogous to "black tea" - or as adulterated, or counterfeit goods - analogous to "Tuscan olive oil from Spain". The tests of the consumer organizations are full of it. Unfortunately!

We cannot change the world. But we would like to contribute with our olive oil, so that the tradition of high quality is not lost, and the lovers of the genuine, unadulterated, high quality Tuscan olive oil can continue to enjoy it.

However: to produce a Tuscan Extra Vergine at € 3.99 for the half liter is simply not possible - just as it is not possible to produce a Grand Cru wine at the price of a hobo wine!
